As the sakura blossoms gently fall, marking the culmination of their fleeting beauty, the apple trees burst forth in full bloom, announcing the arrival of spring’s crescendo. It is within this seasonal symphony that we unveil the third act of our spring mini-series: the Apple Blossom cocktail.
Much like the previous entry, the April Shower, the name Apple Blossom conceals a plethora of diverse concoctions. However, I once again turn to the trusted pages of Difford’s Guide for my choice of recipe.
This libation serenades the senses with a rich medley of apple and herbal notes, gently caressed by a subtle hint of bitter orange. A harmonious blend of sweetness and tartness ensues. For my palate, I find that selecting a relatively youthful Calvados for this cocktail, such as a Reserve or even a Fino (for more information on Calvados, you can peruse my insights here), enhances the overall experience. These Calvados varieties boast the vibrant essence of young apples, infusing the cocktail with an invigorating freshness and a vivid apple symphony.
