While the allure of classic cocktails is eternal and invigorating, there are moments when you yearn to usher in something fresh and novel. It was during my summer sojourn amidst the magnificent glaciers that inspiration struck, birthing a new cocktail concept. As the recipe fine-tuning progressed, this newfound libation spontaneously bifurcated into two distinct yet harmonious creations: the Glacier Sunrise and the Glacier Sunset.
Glacier sunrise
-1 oz/ 30 ml Pisco (for a deeper dive into Pisco, explore my article here)
-1 oz/ 30 ml Grand Marnier
-1 oz/ 30 ml Mayer lemon fresh juice (though regular lemon may suffice, it will render the cocktail less aromatic and slightly more tart)
Pour all the ingredients into a cocktail shaker over ice and shake gently. Strain into the chilled cocktail glass, add an ice cube and enjoy.
Garnish – candied orange peel (optional)
Glacier sunset
-1 oz/ 30 ml Pisco
-1 oz/ 30 ml Grand Marnier
-1 oz/ 30 ml blood orange fresh juice
Pour all the ingredients into a cocktail shaker over ice and shake gently. Strain into the chilled cocktail glass, add an ice cube and enjoy.
Garnish – candied orange peel (optional)
The primary distinguishing feature between these two exquisite cocktails lies in their choice of juices. The Glacier Sunrise embodies a refreshing vitality, while the Glacier Sunset exudes a mellower, more snug ambience.
From a technical perspective, both these libations can be regarded as delightful variations of the classic Pisco Sour, wherein Grand Marnier takes on the role of sweetener.
