I’ve had a soft spot for forget-me-nots since childhood. They’re such simple, unassuming little flowers, but incredibly charming. And now they’ve actually moved in on their own near my house, appearing every spring to brighten things up.
The Forget-Me-Not cocktail pleased me just as much.
Of course, you’ll find quite a few different cocktails carrying this name, but the most common version combines a strong spirit—usually vodka or gin—with elderflower liqueur, citrus juice, and a sweetener.
My favorite version, as usual, came from Difford’s Guide. It uses gin and Crème de Violette, a liqueur made from Parma violet petals.
The juniper character of the gin works beautifully with the floral notes of the elderflower and violet. With vodka, in my opinion, the cocktail would become a little too one-dimensionally floral.
Let’s make Forget-Me-Not.
Ingredients:
2 oz / 60 ml Dry Gin
1/4 oz / 7.5 ml Crème de violette liquor
1/2 oz / 15 ml Elderflower liquor
1/2 oz / 15 ml Fresh Lime Juice
1 oz / 30 ml Agave Syrup
Process:
Add all ingredients into a cocktail shaker.
Shake with ice and strain into a chilled cocktail glass.
